Spin the knob at the top of the umbrella, and voila -- the lady with the large mouth begins strumming on her samisen! Remarkably, the mechanisms that enable this enjoyable wizardry date back centuries in Japan. Like most Edo tops, this one features five brilliant colors: red, green, yellow, pink and purple. HAND MADE IN JAPAN

 

The ingeniously talented craftsman who creates this traditional spinning top -- without any help from a blueprint -- is Masaaki Hiroi. Find out more about Masaaki Hiroi here.

Proper handling:● The dyes are not colorfast, so colors may fade if brought into contact with water. ● The internal mechanisms are very delicate. The top should be handled carefully at all times.
How to use:1. Place the top on a flat surface. 2. Place the umbrella atop the wire extending from the doll's head. 3. Keep the base firmly in place with one hand, and use the fingers of the other hand to spin the umbrella. The doll's mouth and arms will begin moving automatically.
